He definitely recommends this knife. The straight pin, the pen and the eyeglass screwdriver have all come in handy unexpectedly. I purchased this for my boyfriend and he says it is the one of the greatest knives he has ever had. The alarm is nice, but volume could be a bit higher.
I've carried a SAK for years - a small Signature on my keychain when I'm tooling around town, and a Wusthof-branded (but made by Victorinox) Huntsman for road trips. (But I wonder why they didn't make one with a slot-driver on one side and a phillips-driver on the other, since some eyeglasses have the other kind of screw).- The pen is basically a pen-refill (the part you'd normally find inside a click pen), stuck into the knife scale next to the tweezers. When they came out with the clock, I was sold. It detaches fully from the knife so you can twirl it between your fingers (a big knife body is too big to twirl), but it's held firmly in place when the corkscrew is closed.
The altimeter might be cool for hiking, but I'm not sure why I'd want to know the temperature inside my pocket).- The rest of the blades are of the famous Victorinox quality, and probably not worth going into here.I love having a knife that's also a pocketwatch and eyeglass-fixer. Great if you really need to sign something or jot down a number, but it would be tortuous to write anything extensive (the pen on the smaller knives is actually better designed, since there you hold the knife body to write, and the pen tip just sticks out one end)- The clock is brilliant. Someone did some serious ergonomic work on this, and that someone deserves a raise. My only complaint is that the full-sized knife body is a little bulky for everyday keychain use. (The Traveller is the same knife with an altimeter and a thermometer. Since they last pretty much forever, I figured I was done. When they came out with the pen and the mini-screwdriver, I was sorely tempted to upgrade.
Fully settable with just one button, and including both an alarm and a timer (up to 9:59 minutes in seconds, and up to 9:59 hours in minutes). If (when) Victorinox comes out with a model that's small-sized with a clock/pen/mini-screwdriver, I will be buying it. - The screwdriver is just the right thing for tightening eyeglasses. All good.
I would prefer it continue to beep until turned off, but it is still able to wake me up. Even though the clock isn't waterproof I still find this feature to be very useful. The screwdriver in the cork is a nice touch, though. The other functions of the knife pretty much speak for themselves. I work long hours and generally take a nap during my lunch, and its nice to have this little folder to wake me up when my hour is over. My only complaint is that the alarm only beeps for about 20-30 seconds.
so good size, colour, design, tools but not waterproof. but with thorough research this was probably best tool for your average user who doesnt want the classic red handles. I was moments away from purchasing this but decided to call local knife ship for any details and found out the clock wasnt waterproof. So seeing as i am in my school cadets experiencing rain, lake and mud i really needed a sturdy tool that i wouldnt be afraid to get wet.
Even found a nice thin layer of oil of some tools. The scales/handles seem decidedly gray, rather than black. unless work jeans. :~)) At the outer limit re carrying in front pants pocket. Pen has nice length. Battery hidden under plastic liner.
